Men and gender equality
Gender equality is not a so-called women’s issue. Gender inequality issues occur in many areas and do not only affect women. Promoting gender equality is also not a women’s issue in the sense that only women should be involved in it. On the contrary – men’s contribution is critical, especially because they are more often in leadership positions and have the power to make changes.
A separate field has emerged in social sciences in the form of men and masculinities studies, which explores the diversity of masculinity. What drives men to be involved in gender equality is describing the existing forms of masculinity and understanding that clinging to the stereotypical masculine role is not mandatory.
